I ate too much last night. Our neighbors had us over for a supper of ribs, sausage and pork belly, topped off by a homemade cherry pie. My friend smokes the best meats in Colorado, and my wife bakes a pie like no other.

Still stuffed this morning, I resonated with the Lord’s message in Psalm 81:10, Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. That’s exactly what I did last night.

The children of Israel bellied up to a different table. They refused to listen to the Lord or to submit to him, choosing instead to follow their own pleasures. God, the gracious host, let them go.

The Lord doesn’t make me eat from his buffet. I live free to discover my pleasures wherever I wish, despite the warnings.

However, only the Lord’s table serves lasting satisfaction. And delightfully, seats wait there for you and me.
