Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:2).
The very same Spirit that hovered over the deep at creation, today hovers over our lives, indwells us, and empowers us – if we allow it (see Romans 8).
My prayer for 2021 is for more of the Spirit of God’s hovering, molding, and creating in my life, and less about me and my building plans.
Happy New Year!
Week One of Reading the Bible Cover to Cover

Thanks for posting this, Dave! I’m reading with you this year and I’ve invited my family to join me. Looking forward to your insights as we go. My nugget from day one is centered around the word dominion. Jesus did not let sin have dominion (Psalm 19:13) over him when he resisted the temptation in the desert. And he perfectly fulfilled the command to have dominion (authority) over the earth (Genesis 1:28)
Doug – glad you’re joining me in reading this year! Hopefully some of the fam will join in. You make a great point about “dominion,” one I had not thought of before. Fascinating tie in. I really liked the pairing of Psalm 19 with Genesis 1.
