Ode to Uncle JR

Last week I attended the funeral of my uncle, JR Dishman. Uncle JR was the oldest brother of my father, Charles Dishman. JR was a husband, father, grandfather, deacon, follower of Jesus and a country bluegrass gospel singer. He taught himself the guitar as an adult and played and sang ever since. His funeral was filled with family and friends. JR seemed to have a handle on the important things in life.

I have an album of his songs which I’ve listened to over and over and even shared at Cru venues. I always appreciated my Uncle JR and I know that he now resides in Glory, with his brothers and parents and family members and friends. I found myself thinking during the funeral that I’m looking forward to joining them someday.

I share one of his songs for you to enjoy. In your busy day I hope you can listen, consider the eternity described here and ask, do I have a handle on the important things in life?

    Alverta,
I’m so glad to hear JR singing this, one of my favorites. I’m sorry I have never heard him sing before. I’ve love you Alverta, more than you know. You have a sweet spirit and a soft shoulder. Loved JR and your children. We are so sorry for suffering deep loss of your precious husband. We can only imagine how you must feel. We will be praying for you. Remember, there is no limit for time for grieving. Everyone is different. I know you loved him deeply. We love you.

      Judy,

Thanks for your comments and your kind words. I passed your note on to my Aunt Alverta. She’s on Facebook if you’d like to respond to her directly.

      Blessings,

Thanks for sharing Dave. This popped up on FB and i wanted to listen to his song. I totally understand the words “I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.” So sorry for your families loss, but so cool knowing he is in heaven with our Savior.
